Family Reunion

A family reunion  is a great way to strengthen families, as you meet seldom seen family members.

We recently attended a family reunion near Yellowstone Park.  It was fun visiting family that we haven’t seen for years.

Sometimes a misfortune can bring a family together.  Ours was a dance with a buffalo.  Or should I say a run in with a buffalo.  In short, we ran into a buffalo.

It happened after dark as we were driving through Lamar Valley.  Buffalo are dark animals and tend to absorb light, like head lights.  So they are hard to see.    We braked hard and almost got  stopped before hitting the buffalo, knocking it off its feet so that it fell onto the hood of our car and smasked our windshield. 

We thought we were going to have it in our laps, but instead it rolled off the car and walked away.   We were unhurt,  except for some whip lash.  The car was totaled.

We did nor swerve to avoid the buffalo, which was good.  More people die from swerving to avoid an animal then those that die from hitting an animal.  This is because swerving will take you off the road way, where you might fall off a drop off, hit another call online, hit something else and roll over, etc.

We were thankful to God that we were alive after running into a buffalo.  And we still enjoyed the reunion.

Family Vacation

Saturday night my wife and I got back from visiting our children and grand children in Minneapolis.  It is a twenty hour drive. Four of our five children were there at least part of the time.  Our fifth child is serving a mission in Switzerland for our church, so she could not be there.

Our four grand children were a lot of fun.  It was the first time we have seen the baby, now four months old, and weighing a hefty 18 pounds.

Can anyone explain the physics of  how, when you are holding a baby in your arms and she falls a sleep, that she seems to almost instantly gain ten pounds?

It was great fun to be able to play with the grand children.  And it was great visiting with our grown children.  Everyone enjoyed a visit to the Como Zoo.  It is a fairly small zoo.  However, it is designed to be educational for children (and adults).  The seal lion show was a big hit.  So was the lion, tiger, and cougar.

Twelve people together in a student housing apartment can get a little close at times, but we all managed with no problems.  Being together, having fun together, making meals together (and cleaning up afterwards), and catching up on what is going on in everyone’s life, is important and good.  It is another way of strengthening families.
