The era that we live in is fantastic for a number of reasons but possibly more so for the amount of choice that we have in the products that we can buy. Technology has created a consumerism that allows us choice but at the same time baffles us with the amount to choose from and the agony of potentially making the wrong choice.
This is no more so apparent than in the world of baby products. Pram, stroller, buggy, pushchair, travel system, carrycot, bassinette…… the list can go on! As a parent what do you need and what is the right choice?
You could spend a very long time trawling the internet for best buys, product reviews and user feedback but to be honest my experience shows that word of mouth is by far the best way.
I happened completely by accident onto my pushchair of choice which happened to be a hand me down from a relative. I needed something small and compact for a trip away and it was perfect. Not only was it fit for its purpose but it eliminated the need for me to go through that period of “have I made the right decision” in choosing a stroller. What was the miracle stroller you ask – Maclaren of course! That first Maclaren – the maclaren techno – was the start of a Maclaren relationship that continued in our household until the kids didn’t need strollers.
For us it was a dream buggy: it was compact (Maclaren are famous for their umbrella folding mechanism), lightweight – less than 7kgs basic weight, fully reclinable so could be used from baby to toddler, had easy to hold ergonomically optimised adjustable handles, easy to manoeuvre with swivel wheels and came with a sturdy built durable aluminium frame. In addition it came with its own rain cover and a special see through window with UV protection built in.
The only drawback I could find in an otherwise fantastic buggy was the mesh shopping basket. It’s fine when the stroller is upright but difficult to access if your child’s reclined and asleep. But hey I challenge anyone to find a stroller that doesn’t have any compromises.
For me the techno xt buggy was the best thing since sliced bread!
But back to that all difficult decision. You could argue that I got lucky in not having to choose a stroller but I would still argue that personal experience counts for a lot. The amount of people I know that are serial stroller purchasers simply because they are constantly buying either the best buy or best review of the year model. Speak to your friends who love their strollers and it’s from here that you’ll find the buggy for you.
