Rhubarb Pie

Home Made Rhubarb Pie

It has been a very wet Spring here in Utah. The weeds have loved it. They grow so very fast. There is one vegetable that grows as fast as the weeds. It is rhubarb. Our rhubarb plant is very big. If other vegetables grew as fast there would be a lot less food shortage problems.

Last Saturday I cut some of the rhubarb. I didn’t make any difference to the plant. You could not tell that I had cut any. After bringing in I washed, then diced the rhubarb.

Then my oldest daughter came by. Together she and I made an open faced rhubarb pie. We made it from a recipe we found on the internet. It was a simple recipe, with rhubarb, sugar, tapioca, butter, and a little flour.

The pie was delicious.

Working together with children is a good way to strengthen the family. It is a good time to talk and laugh together.

Should children work at home?

When I was a boy there was always plenty of tasks to do. Weeding was one of the big ones, and not my favorite. My sisters and I spent countless hours pulling weeds and helping to keep the gardens looking nice.

My parents had a business. At first they ran it from the basement. Eventually they bought a building and moved much of the business there. The business was selling wholesale souvenirs. Us children made many of them. When we got home from school we would go into our garage and make souvenirs. Dad would pay us by the piece, meaning that we would get a certain amount of money for each one we made. No work, no pay.

And we had chores that we were expected to do. With all of this, we learnt to work.

My wife and I have tried to raise our children with a work ethic. No matter where we lived, we had at least a small vegetable garden, and usually some fruit trees. So our children got their share of weeding and garden work. They also got plenty of experience canning apricots, peaches, apple sauce, and salsa.

Our neighbor has chickens. I watched as he and his boys built the coup and the fence for the chickens. These boys feed the chickens and gather the eggs. I once asked my neighbor if it was profitable raising chickens. He replied, “I’m not raising chickens, I’m raising boys.”

Thus one way to help strengthen the family is to teach your children how to work. It is best to teach them by working with them. The family will become stronger as they work together. A good work ethic is something that a person can use throughout their life.

Why I Canceled Free Traffic System

There are a few over 100 posts to this blog at this time. A few of them were writtn by me. Most were from guests writers via a free program called Free Traffic System. It is a good program for getting free content to your websites and also receiving quality one way back links to your site. Both are desirable for SEO and other reasons.

As I looked at the posts coming from Free Traffic System I noticed that over half of them were in, or should have been in, the “Home Business” category. To my thinking, that is out of proportion for this blog, whicj is about strengthening the family. I also had to trash several of the posts because they were completely not appropriate for this blog.

Therefor this morning I removed this blog from the Free Traffic System. I will continue to use them for some of my other blogs, which are more business or health related. I also reccomend Free Traffic System to anyone that wants quality backlinks or good free content.

As a result of this, there will be fewer posts made to this blog, as now almost all will come from me. However, these posts should be more relevent to strengthen the family. I hope you will enjoy this blog and come back often. I also invite you to subscribe to my feed.
